Dr. David Velasquez has lived all over—in Miami, Northern Virginia, Washington. D.C, Paris, Madrid, Havana, New York and New Zealand. He received his Bachelor of Science from George Mason University in Psychology with a minor in Biology before going on to complete a Post Baccalaureate research fellowship in Molecular Genetics at The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), and research at the U.S. National Institutes of Health. From there, he received his Doctor of Medicine from Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina in Havana, Cuba, and he completed his residency at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell on Long Island’s Bay Shore.
As a family medicine physician, Dr. Velasquez enjoys his job as “a jack of all trades,” working with patients of all ages to treat a wide range of medical conditions. He is humbled by the opportunity to help people in their time of need, and he values the opportunity to make long-lasting relationships with patients and their families.
Outside of the office, you can find Dr. Velasquez exploring Richmond’s food and music scene. Dr. Velasquez loves all things sci-fi, attending costume parties, watching movies, reading, and participating in sports such as running, biking, hiking and surfing. He enjoys traveling with his wife, meeting new people and making new friends. Dr. Velasquez is up for pretty much anything, as he generally enjoys trying new things!
