PEDIATRICS
Caring for your child from age 13 on
PEDIATRIC SERVICES AT VITALCARE
Pediatric care is different from adult medicine. The smaller body of a child is substantially different physiologically from that of an adult. So, treating children is not like treating a miniature adult. Congenital defects, genetic variance, and developmental issues are of greater concern to pediatricians than physicians treating adults. Our kid-friendly pediatrician provides compassionate, personalized care in a comforting environment for patients 13 plus.

WHAT DOES YOUR PEDIATRICIAN DO?
A pediatrician will see your child annually for annual check-ups to monitor your child’s overall and physical health, administer vaccinations, prescribe medications, provide guidance and answer questions and track social, physical and emotional development. These visits ensure your child is meeting key developmental markers and addressing any concerns. Your pediatrician is also the first person to call whenever your child is sick.
WHY A PEDIATRICIAN?
Here are some reasons to consider choosing a pediatrician:
- Pediatricians have specialized training in the physical, emotional, and behavioral needs of children.
- Pediatricians only see children, so they often have a broader experience recognizing and treating childhood illnesses.

WHY VISITING THE PEDIATRICIAN DURING PUBERTY IS IMPORTANT
Puberty is when a child’s body begins to transition into adulthood. It usually happens between ages 8 and 13 in girls and slightly later in boys, often between the ages of 9 to 14 in boys. However, it can occur earlier or later in both girls and boys. It’s caused by changes in hormones that cause the body to reach sexual maturity.
Because of the particularly sensitive and frustrating emotions that come with puberty, in addition to all the bodily changes, it’s important that your child has the support of a trusted medical provider during these years. A pediatrician like VitalCare’s can help answer questions they may not want to ask their parents and provide guidance during this challenging time.
WHEN WILL MY CHILD STOP SEEING A PEDIATRICIAN?
Pediatricians are able to treat your child through age 21 and sometimes even longer. When they are ready, your young adult can simply start seeing one of our providers who specialize in adult primary medicine without leaving our practice—there’s no need to find them a new medical home!
