June is Men’s Health Month! This month is dedicated to helping men–including boys and the men’s families–to learn about taking better care of their bodies through healthy eating and living, and then implementing that knowledge. We also want men to know and understand how healthy living and a healthy diet can help them live not only healthier, but longer as well.
Men’s Health Month: Healthy Diet
While the stereotypical meal of men is steak, hamburgers, and more red meat, it’s important to consider what you’re putting into your body. Don’t forget to round off your meals with fruits and vegetables. Nutrients, rather than calories, should be your focus.
Regular Physical Activity
The television can be a relaxing way to blow off steam after a long day of work. While it’s fine to engage in relaxing activities, it’s also important to engage in physical activities. From walks to demanding sports, there are many options you can consider for how you will get active throughout the week. When you exercise, don’t forget to vary your workout, as it’s important to take care of all areas of your body.
Get Adequate Sleep
Sleep isn’t something to slack off on. While you probably shouldn’t sleep your days away like you may have done as a growing teenager, it’s still important to get sufficient sleep at night. Aim for at least seven hours of sleep. Sleep deprivation can negatively affect your health–both physically and mentally–so this is one area where slacking off isn’t going to do you any good.
See a Doctor
Don’t wait until you’re 50 to see a doctor (and if you’re over 50, what are you waiting for?). Go in to have your prostate checked, check for colorectal cancer, and get a physical to identify any other potential health issues.
