Tips to Keep Kids Healthy

We know that parents try their very best to make sure their kids never fall ill, but that can be challenging with infections floating around and germs lingering on surfaces in public places, daycares, libraries and more. We know that it can be challenging, and at VitalCare Family Practice, our team is here to provide you with support and guidance with a few tips to keep kids healthy all year long.

During Cold and Flu Season

Tips to keep kids healthyWith the cold and flu season knocking at the door, you want to take whatever steps you can to make sure your kids remain healthy. Avoiding illness is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic, as it adds another layer of illness that can be spread through a school and in your own house. Here are some simple tips to keep kids healthy both at school and home.

Tips to Keep Kids Healthy #1: Remind Kids to Wash Their Hands Frequently

Washing your hands is still one of the best ways to fend off all kinds of germs. Make sure to remind your kids to wash their hands before eating, when they come inside from playing and especially before eating. Also, remind your kids about the importance of washing their hands for at least 20 seconds.

Tips to Keep Kids Healthy #2: Practice a Good Sleep Schedule

Experts recommend 10-11 hours of sleep for school-age children to keep them healthy. Anything less can weaken their immune system and increase their chances of getting sick. Help your kids unwind for about half an hour before their bedtime. This will help them fall asleep easier and get quality rest.

Tips to Keep Kids Healthy #3: Put Hand Sanitizer in Your Child’s Backpack

There will be cases where your child forgets or is too overwhelmed with activities to wash their hands properly. Putting hand sanitizer in their backpack is a great way to ensure they still have the chance to kill the germs on their hands even when they are in a rush.

Tips to Keep Kids Healthy #4: Avoid Germ Sharing

After years of being taught about how sharing is caring, it’s important to remember that this doesn’t apply to things that may spread germs and illnesses. Teach your children never to share silverware, cups, straws or anything that comes near their mouths or faces. This also applies to attire that comes close to their face, such as hats and scarves.
