EXPERT CARE FOR WOMEN

At VitalCare Family Practice, we understand that women have special healthcare needs. Women’s healthcare focuses on the care and management of health needs specific to women, such as: reproductive health, breast health and sexual health. VitalCareFamily Practice is proud to offer women’s healthcare services for routine preventative care. This reduces the number of specialists that you need to see for routine healthcare, and allows you to get the care you need all under one roof. Yearly gynecological exams serve as a preventative care measure for women throughout all stages of life.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR ANNUAL WOMEN’S EXAM

Women’s annual exams are a key component of their overall health and well-being. These important exams aim to identify any potential health problems within the reproductive system. We encourage you to take this time to communicate any questions or concerns you have regarding your reproductive health. If needed, we can refer you to a specialist for further testing and evaluation.

During a women’s healthcare exam, our team will first review your medical history and answer any questions you may have. Following this initial conversation, our team will leave the room and ask you to undress and put on a gown that opens at the front. Once you are ready, our team will re-enter the room to conduct the physical exam and any specific screenings you need. Our providers are experienced in providing the following women’s health services:

  • Pelvic exams including Pap tests to screen for HPV and/or cervical cancer
  • Birth control counseling and prescriptions
  • Preconception counseling
  • Family planning
  • Clinical breast exam to screen for breast cancer and other abnormalities
  • STI screening, diagnosis and treatment
  • Vaginal infections such as yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis
  • Menopause management
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

FAMILY PLANNING

At your annual well-woman exam, we will discuss your reproductive health including your menstrual cycles and what method of contraception you choose. Our providers are highly trained in educating and counseling patients on birth control options. VitalCare Family Practice offers many birth control options:

  • Birth control pills
  • Birth control patch
  • Intrauterine device (IUD)

If you are expecting a child, the team at VitalCare Family Practice offers prenatal counseling, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Learn more about our prenatal counseling services.

WHY REGULAR PELVIC EXAMS ARE IMPORTANT

Even if you are not pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or you do not have any noticeable reproductive or sexual health issues, it is important to see a physician every year for a pelvic exam. Regular exams allow your healthcare provider at VitalCare Family Practice to detect any more serious problems such as cervical cancer or HIV in its early stages, and help you to make the best and most informed decisions about your reproductive and sexual health. The earlier that more serious issues are detected, the better chance you have of a full recovery or effective management of your symptoms.
